History

Gospel Way had its first service on April 17, 1977 as a mission church. There were 17 people present.  The church was officially organized by Pastor Herman Simpson on July 9, 1977 with Dr. Gerald Conn as the Moderator for the service.  The first building the church used was the old Wayside Inn on Hwy 150 East in Cherryville.  The Wayside Inn was a popular gas station and sandwich shop back in the 50’s.

The church’s second location was a church building on the corner of Pink and Academy Street in Cherryville.  Gospel Way experienced growth and stability over the next 18 years at that location.  And in 1996, God blessed us with the building which we are in now.  It is located at 3904 Tryon Courthouse Road, Cherryville, NC.  This building was formerly a Teamsters Union Hall building.

God’s hands were truly in Gospel Way getting this building!  In 2006, the church purchased new pews and carpet for the sanctuary and completed construction of a new Fellowship Building.  All of which, are paid in full!  God is Good!  All the Time!
